The Perfect Paint Job
Painting can be a big job for any homeowner. Make it easy on yourself with a few simple painting tips from Sacksteder’s Interiors.
Choosing the proper color (or colors) shouldn’t be your only concern once deciding to paint a room. You also need to consider the luster or sheen of the paint and ease of cleaning. With five choices of paint to choose from, you don’t want to be knocked flat on your backside when the time comes to make a decision.
Paint finishes range from "flat" or matte to shiny or "high-gloss." The chalky finish known as "flat," features a matte sheen that absorbs light and helps hide surface imperfections. Flat paint is ideal for high-traffic areas and ceilings where irregularities can exist.
Eggshell enamel offers superior cleaning durability to completely flat finishes, and has a little more luster.
Satin paints have a pearl-like finish. They're also excellent at resisting mildew, dirt and stains (they can better withstand cleaning and light scrubbing) making them more suitable for frequently used spaces.
Semi-gloss paints are great for reflecting light. The shiny appearance is most evident in rooms with a strong light source. As a rule of thumb (with a few exceptions) the shinier a finish is, the more durable and easier to clean it will be. Use a Semi-gloss on areas that are cleaned frequently such as kitchens and bathrooms.
One benefit that high-gloss colors possess over flat sheens is depth of color. The higher the sheen, the more vivid and rich your color will be. Also keep in mind that shiny surfaces, because they are reflective, help to make a small space feel larger. Shinier paints require thinner roller covers than flat finishes.

House Boat Overhullin'
What NOT to do when decorating a houseboat...
What is houseboat décor? It’s not oars and anchors. This is your home! Not a ship yard! A houseboat should not be decorated any differently than a home without its sea legs.
Don’t throw a buoy around my neck when I come in, but there needs to be a WOW factor. Use color to liven up your houseboat. If you are overwhelmed by color, start by painting a focal wall in a bold color then choose a neutral color for the surrounding walls.
Keep your houseboat organized, and simple. Remember your on vacation, your goal is to create a relaxing environment, so don’t clutter the space up with dusty relics. Update your look with a leather sofa. Leather is simple, durable, easy to clean, and always in style.
Instead of drowning in a sea of lighthouse paintings on the walls, decorate with pictures of your family and friends having fun on the water. Share the fun with your guests, they will be much more intrigued by a picture of your husband sunning on the top deck wearing that goofy hat, than some old lighthouse.
Trade out your metal or plastic blinds for soft and subdued roman shades or flowy full length drapes. Let light in, you’re there to enjoy the sunshine anyways, just keep in mind no one wants to see your over weight uncle walk around in his bathing suit that’s snug in all the wrong places-privacy is still a priority.

The Trend On Windows
Decorating Tips from Sacksteder’s Interiors…
Update your out dated window treatments with the latest trends in window fashion.
When it comes to window treatments, less is more. Your window treatment should not overwhelm the room. Simple and smooth lines instantly add a clean and modern feel to any room. Draperies, valances, and shades with sleek silhouettes, and fabrics with bold geometric patterns, stripes, and floral print are very popular.
Today’s windows treatments are sleek and easy to care for. When choosing a window treatment, your first concern should be function, i.e. light control and privacy. How much light does the space need? What do you use the space for? Floor length draperies are classic, and work in just about any decorating situation. They can be modernized with different fabrics and patterns to fit your need and style. Roman shades are the new blinds. They offer privacy and light control without the yucky plastic.

The Fancy on Formal Dining
Decorating Tips from Sacksteder’s Interiors…
With a dining room this elegant you will want to host a five course dinner every night!
This dining room had stunning features that set the tone for this elegant design. The preexisting ceiling soffit was eye catching; the niche and molding detail, another great feature.
Timeless cream and brown was chosen as the color palette and the transformation was underway. A faux finish was applied to the soffit and niche for drama, as well as to capture and move your eye around the room. We layered rich tones of brown throughout the space to create depth and dimension. A bold patterned area rug anchors the dining table and chairs, and adds excitement. The large dining table that seats eight comfortably is dressed with classic oval back chairs, and is flooded with warm and welcoming light from the stylish chandelier and coordinating wall sconces. Additional accent lighting and a mirror was added to further brighten the space. Lastly, we accessorized with a beautiful place setting, and added a Sacksteder’s Interiors custom floral arrangement as a centerpiece.
To get this look in your own home start off by choosing a smooth and timeless color palette. Next add drama by adding a bold pattern that compliments the chosen wall color. This could include an area rug, window treatments, or upholstery. A stylish and classic chandelier is a must have look for this elegant design. Lastly, dress your table with those dishes you have stored away for “special occasions,” and finish off by adding a striking centerpiece.
No matter you decorating style, Sacksteder’s Interiors has a great selection of home accessories, and furniture for you to choose from. Visit our online shop and turn your home into a masterpiece!

Care & Cleaning of Wood Furniture
Care
Wood furniture is a great investment that can last for generations. Wood furniture needs the right care to not only maintain its beauty, but to help it last. Your wood piece must have a protective finish. The finish protects the wood and adds to its beauty, but remember no finish is totally indestructible. However, with regular care, the finish will last much longer and providing years of enjoyment to you.
To protect and care for your wood furniture you should:
Cleaning
You should dust your wood furniture frequently with a clean, soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Make sure you clean the surface by rubbing in the direction of the grain and polish your furniture every six months.
Waxes should be avoided because regular use can result in a build-up of a wax film on the surface of the furniture attracting dirt, smoke and other pollutants in the air. This can resulting in smudges and streaks. Also, waxes contain grit that can permanently damage furniture surfaces with scrathces and imperfections if used improperly.
Polishes are recommend. The contain detergents, emulsifiers and mineral oil. The detergents clean and remove dirt from the furniture, the emulsifiers restore body to the wood, and the mineral oil is left behind as a barrier for dirt and moisture.
With these simple tasks, your wood furniture should be protected so you can further enjoy its beauty for years to come.

Nice Niche
Decorating Tips from Sacksteder’s Interiors…
It’s safe to say that more and more home buyers are looking for homes with character, or great architectural features. Now-a-days, even home builders are offering more choices or upgrades, and adding more details to homes.
So you have a niche, now what are you going to go with it? Don’t fret. Although niches can at times be awkward or difficult to decorate, Sacksteder’s Interiors is at your rescue with great design ideas to share with you!
Decorating a niche is a great opportunity to add dimension and depth to a space. To get this look in your own home, start out by painting the niche. This is a great opportunity to bring a new accent color into your home. If color isn’t what you’re looking for, consider a faux finish technique. This will create dimension without adding overwhelming color.
Niches can be a great place to display your personality and show case items you are proud of. An item placed in a niche signifies it is special, and worthy of attention. Think-What are you proud of? Is it your autographed Bengal’s Jersey? Your daughter’s oil painting? Maybe it’s a one-of-a-kind floral arrangement by Sacksteder’s Interiors? Regardless, give it the attention it deserves by showcasing it within the niche. Adding an accent light is a nice touch that will accentuate the item even further.
Sacksteder’s Interiors carries a great selection of furniture that will fill your home with life and character. Depending on the location and size of the niche, adding a love seat or two sitting chairs and a side table, can jazz up the space and will create a relaxed sitting area.

Vamping Up Your Dining Room
Decorating tips from Sacksteder’s Interiors…
With summer just around the corner it’s time to brighten up your home dining area. Create energy within your space, and make spending time inside your home just as enjoyable as basking outdoors in the bright sun.
To get this look in your own home start with a paint color in an energetic and warm hue such as yellow, fuchsia, or orange. Can’t commit to all over color? It’s ok- remain calm, may I suggest starting out by painting one wall to be the focal point of the room.
New window treatments can easily liven up any room. Consider a valence that will hide blinds or shades as well as hardware. Choose a fabric that picks up on the wall color, or that enhances accent colors within the room. Don’t be afraid to choose a fabric in a bold color or pattern. Its summer! Let loose! Color is your friend!
If you have old dining room chairs that look down-in-the-dumps, give them a little Botox by adding cushions, or new upholstery in a vibrant color or trendy pattern. Could your chairs still use a little more love? Give them a face lift with a fresh coat of paint or lacquer in a high gloss.
Lastly, pull the space together with accessories and lighting. Adding a great chandelier or hanging lamp 30” from the table top will provide your family or dinner guests with beautiful light during your meal and adds great style to your room. Bringing in flowers from the outdoors or adding a flower arrangement will fill the room with life and fill your space with the feeling of summer.
